That's a wrap!

Room 5, it has been an awesome year teaching you all. You are a crazy bunch at times, but also very thoughtful, caring, clever and full of personality.

I want to say a big thank you to you all for your hard work (and parents) for your support over the year. I have been overwhelmed by the amount of lovely gifts received over the last few days. Not only have I been spoilt by you all, but so has my 'bump' and even my dog Lulu! It is a very exciting time coming up for me with the arrival of my first baby and it has been so much fun sharing my journey leading up to this experience with all of you. When the time is right, I promise to bring in bubba to show you all.

Good luck for year 6, and have heaps of fun being the leaders of the school. Work hard and try your best, and make the most of every experience.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, be safe, wear sunscreen, and have lots of fun. I'll see you all at the start of the year, and look forward to hearing about your holiday adventures.

Lots of love,
Miss R

Student Volunteer Army Project - check out our video!

The Sunnyhills School Year 5 students, registered to take part in the School Kit Squad's Student Volunteer Army initiative. For this project the students had to think of ways in which we could help our community. After lots of thinking and researching, Room 5 decided to visit the local Retirement Village, Room 11 visited the local Kindy and Room 6 did some work around our school grounds and also did some work with the junior students. We also gathered a collection of bits and pieces to deliver to the needy animals at the SPCA, as well as make 'Kindness Rocks' to anonymously deliver to some deserving recipients throughout our community. Here is Room 5's video of our journey. Big shout out to School Kit Squad for providing the plans, resources and truly meaningful and rewarding learning experience for us. Enjoy!

Book worms

It is so awesome to get stuck into a good book and be transformed to other times and places, as can be seen here by Chloe and Hannah, who chose to spend their lunch time in the senior courtyard reading! That's what I call Learning for Life :)

Diwali

On Wednesday we celebrated Diwali and the week before that we were lucky enough to have some international performers come and show us some of their traditional dances/songs and instruments. There are always so many interesting things going on at Sunnyhills!

What did you learn about Diwali?

Also the Room 5 hosts (Bodhi, Keeley, Steven, Vera, Isabelle and Luke) and tech supporters (Joseph and Clyde) were AMAZING and made the show run so smoothly.

This term, Team 5 are going to volunteer their services by taking part in a community project. Right now we are at the Get Thinking stage of the inquiry process, where we need to FIND the perfect project to do.

We are interested in hearing from our family and friends and wider community to find out what they think would be a good project for us to do for our community. Please comment any ideas you get below.

Last day of term!

It was so nice to get out on the field today for some Team 5 Sport in the sun. What was your favourite game?

Have a safe and happy holiday Room 5! See you next term.

Number Talks with Mrs Madden

We were very lucky to have Mrs Madden come into our classroom yesterday and show us how to have 'Number Talks' in Maths.

She gave Room 5 the problem 18 x 5. Look at how many strategies we came up with. I wonder if our friends or whanau use any of these strategies or perhaps they have some other ones. It would be interesting to find out. Post any other strategies you can come up with in the comments...

Mindfulness

This term, we have been practising Mindfulness with Mrs Driver, and learning how to focus our thoughts and breathing to feel more calm and relaxed during stressful times. We are getting pretty good at it. Here are some of the activities we did today. If you would like to find out more, just ask someone from the Room 5 team.

Monday 20 August 2018

This is Andrew, Neerav, Lucas Ai and Clyde at the disco. Did you know that Lucas (in the white nike shirt) got an American foot ball but he traded it for a soccer ball.

Lukas Ng’s Shield

This Shield tells a bit about me. The left corner box shows that I am born in a place in China and some other Chinese things. The right corner box shows who's in my family. The bottom left corner box shows what I want to be when I grow up. The bottom right corner shows where I like to be.

Making persuasive adverts

We were learning how to make a persuasive advert, but it didn't have to be true.
Lucas Ai and I wrote this ad based on a golden spring.

What would you like to make an advertisement about?

Bio Poem

This is a bio poem that I did. Bio means about you. So we started by doing it on the computer on a doc, and we had to think of three things that describe us best. Then we went on with what we like doing best. After we did that we had our bio poems. So please have a read and see if you think you are like me somehow and comment  if you have one thing that is like me in my poem.
